The Alliance exists because we share a common vision for the renewal of the Church of England, which we believe will only happen if the Church remains rooted in Scripture, standing firm in its historic teachings and the doctrines passed down to us across the generations. We believe that our inherited faith offers the hope that so many in our society crave as a radical alternative to what the surrounding culture offers.
At this critical moment for the Church, with elections for General Synod, we want to be clear about who we are - a diverse network of networks brought together across traditions in order to secure a sustainable platform at the heart of the Church of England for those committed to the received teachings of the universal church of Jesus Christ. General Synod has the power and influence to make laws (called 'measures'), shape the policies and practices of the Church, and oversee certain budgets and appointments. It is elected every five years (often referred to as a quinquennium). The Synod usually meets twice a year (a working week in London in February, a long weekend in York in July) and occasionally in London for three days, including at the start of each 'quinquennium'.

General Synod membership elections take place every five years. Elections for membership of the General Synod from 2026 to 2031 will take place in the early autumn of this year.
So while ordinary churchgoers don't vote directly in most cases, they influence the process through church representation structures. You can find out more on the Church of England website.
